Welcome to the Edinburgh Centre for Medieval and Renaissance
Studies
Edinburgh University is home to one of the
largest communities of medieval and renaissance specialists
internationally, with over 70 members of staff actively
pursuing research in this field. Subjects taught
include history, history of art and architecture, languages
and literatures, music, divinity, archaeology, law,
Celtic and Scottish studies and Islamic studies. Our
interests are global, including European, Islamic, American
and Asian studies.
There are many opportunities for research
degrees at both masters and doctoral level. We welcome
everyone interested in research in medieval and renaissance
studies to our activities,
many of which are organised in conjunction with colleagues
at museums, galleries, libraries and archives in Edinburgh.
